Retail store marketing used to be about a sandwich board in front of your shop and hanging and open sign. Today’s retail marketing landscape looks a lot more like internet marketing than local traffic!
So you own a cute little retail store (or two) and you need to get more people in the door. It may surprise you to know that some of your best prospects may have never heard of your store…gasp! So how do you turn those prospects into feet coming in the door? Social media marketing!
The picture for today’s post shows an actual conversation that I had with some friends on the Facebook about a little shop in downtown Dunedin Fl called Enchanted Spirits. They sell stones and jewelry and other great gifts. What is amazing is that this conversation was going on without their knowledge. They were in their store, minding their own business when people started spontaneously talking about how wonderful their store was and how much people enjoyed their service!
Now, I have a confession, we do social media marketing for them so this was not as spontaneous as it could have been (I posted that on purpose) BUT you can do that too as a small business retail shop owner!
You can ask customers to post pictures from your store on their Facebook page or ask them to “check in” on FourSquare or even tell them how they can get a special discount if they (at) tweet you on Twitter. All of these are free ideas that will get your store into the mainstream of social media marketing.
